Frequently Asked Questions

Art Department & Scenic Truck Rentals in Portland

What types of trucks does Rose City Film Trucks rent for art department, scenic, and set dec use?

We offer a range of production vehicles suitable for art departments, scenic teams, props, and set decoration. Our fleet includes box trucks in multiple sizes, from compact cube trucks to full 5-ton vehicles, and a High Roof Sprinter Van. These trucks are chosen by Portland-area crews for transporting flats, props, scenic builds, signage, furniture, and set materials.

Do you rent grip trucks?

Not exactly. Grip trucks typically come fully outfitted with grip gear, carts, and built-in storage for flags, stands, and lighting. At Rose City Film Trucks, we provide empty trucks (including box trucks and a High Roof Sprinter Van) that are ideal for art department, scenic, and props use, giving you the flexibility to load your own equipment and organize the interior as you need. Many productions looking at grip truck rentals choose our trucks when they want to control their loadout and avoid paying for gear they don't need.

What's the difference between a grip truck and an art department truck?

Grip trucks are usually stocked with stands, flags, apple boxes, c-stands, and have specialized built-in storage. Our trucks, including the High Roof Sprinter Van, are open, empty, and versatile, giving your crew a blank slate for transporting materials, set dressing, and props. If you want to bring your own carts or bins, our vehicles provide an affordable and flexible option.

Can I customize the interior for my department's needs?

Yes. Because our trucks and High Roof Sprinter Van are not pre-loaded with gear, you can organize the interior however you like. Bring your own racks, shelving, foam padding, or carts. Several trucks are equipped with e-track systems so you can clip in straps and secure your load.

Truck Features, Sizes & Availability

What sizes and types of trucks are available?

Our fleet includes 26-foot 5-ton box trucks for large scenic, art, or set dec loads; 16 to 20 foot cube trucks for smaller loads or tighter locations; and a High Roof Sprinter Van for lighter loads, run-and-gun shoots, or city locations where a van fits better. All vehicles are maintained and ready for production use.

Are lift gates available? What types?

Yes. Our trucks have cantilever or chain hoist lift gates for loading heavy or oversized scenic pieces, flats, or props. The High Roof Sprinter Van does not have a lift gate, but its low step-in height makes it easy to load. Check the fleet specs or contact us to confirm the lift gate type on your preferred truck.

Are your trucks production-ready?

Yes. Our trucks and the High Roof Sprinter Van are maintained to professional standards and designed for set use. They feature lift gates (where available), interior lighting, and flexible cargo spaces, ready for art departments, scenic, and props crews across Portland and the Pacific Northwest.

Booking, Pricing & Usage

What kind of productions do you serve?

We work with TV and film shoots, commercials, digital content, photoshoots, and indie projects in Portland and the surrounding region. Our trucks and High Roof Sprinter Van are frequently booked by art departments, props teams, and set decorators.

How do I book a truck or van, and what info do you need?

Use our online request form or contact us directly. We need your shoot dates, preferred truck or van type and size, pickup and drop-off times, and any special requirements such as lift gates or e-track.

Do you offer delivery and pickup?

At this time, we do not offer delivery or pickup services. All vehicles, including our box trucks and High Roof Sprinter Van, are available for pickup at our Portland location. We can recommend third-party transport on request.
